VOICES UNBOUND: At the crossroad of vocal traditions

Sunday 7 December 18.30 - 20.30. The Voice of Women

  • Le Pavillon de Musique: Ann Cnop, violin | Shiho Ono, violin | Mathilde Wolfs, cello (BE)

Music by E. Godecharle, Las Lloronas & M. Sirmen

Amber in ‘t Veld and Marieke Werner met years ago, sharing a passion for sociology, activism and art. This passion now translates and transforms into music. Reflecting their experiences and origins, their work merges world music and slam, giving birth to multilingual and intimate feminist poetry. Harmonies happen effortlessly, provoking a musical crush between the three voices. This is what drives them to pursue the project professionally.

Two violins and a cello form the heart of this unique trio, where the equal collaboration between the instruments takes centre stage. This traditional format, distinguished by its intimate and transparent sound, highlights the versatility and expressiveness of string instruments. A refined balance between harmony, melody, and counterpoint is created by this approach. Le Pavillon de Musique presents a carefully curated repertoire that shines a spotlight on two lesser-known yet fascinating composers of the 18th century: Eugène Godecharle from Brussels and Maddalena Laura Lombardini Sirmen from Venice. Both composers stand out for their innovative approach to chamber music and their ability to combine technical virtuosity with lyrical beauty. By pairing the works of Godecharle and Sirmen, le Pavillon de Musique establishes a unique connection between two musical worlds: the refined court culture of Brussels and the vibrant musical scene of Venice.
