CSBF Next/Gen

Launched in 2025, the NextGen project is a professional development programme and a "springboard" competition dedicated to young performers specialising in early music. Organized within the framework of the Coudenberg Sound Box Fest (CSBF) — a festival which, since its creation in 2021, has aimed to foster encounters between internationally renowned artists and young talents — Next/Gen seeks to support the emergence of a new generation of musicians by providing them with a platform for visibility, training, and networking with industry professionals.

Next/Gen combines several key dimensions: an artistic competition, performance opportunities within the festival, and a two-day professional coaching session designed to facilitate the entry of young artists into the international music scene. Following an online pre-selection based on video material and an ensemble portfolio, the jury will select four groups to perform in Brussels over two days before a panel of distinguished musicians, programmers, and cultural sector professionals.

Summary of Requirements:

  • The programme is open exclusively to professional ensembles. Amateur groups are not eligible.
  • Average age of musicians under 35
  • Maximum of 5 musicians per group
  • Programme aligning with the CSBF philosophy
  • Application deadline: August 31, 2026

The 4 selected groups will benefit from:

  • Custom workshops and masterclasses on the 17 and 18 November led by world-class musicians and professionals in the field;
  • Networking opportunities with representatives from leading cultural institutions in Brussels and across Belgium;
  • Visibility support, including interviews about their ensemble, project, and CSBF experience, to be shared across the festival and partners’ channels;
  • Live performance opportunities in 2027;
  • A professional video clip and audio recording, produced at the prestigious Coudenberg Palace, to enhance their digital presence and artistic portfolio.

At the end of this 2 day Training Lab (full programme available soon), a jury of renowned experts will evaluate the four ensembles and select one winning group, during a final concert in the evening of the 18 November 2026.

The CSBF Next/Gen winner will receive:

  • A €1000 cash prize;
  • The opportunity to perform at CSBF 2027 (theme The Eternal Return of the Classic) as part of our signature double-concert series alongside an internationally acclaimed ensemble;
  • A professionally produced video and audio recording, which may be featured in the CSBF audio guide for the archaeological museum.
  • A new commission by a Belgian composer: this year, Andreas Moulin will create a bespoke piece dedicated to the winning ensemble.
