MARY4ALL - Mary of Hungary, princess and patron of the arts
Mary of Hungary, regent of the former Netherlands on behalf of her brother Charles V, played a decisive role in the development of the Imperial Palace in Brussels. At the same time, she commissioned the construction of another palace in Binche and a vast hunting estate in Mariemont. Through multi-sensory installations combining 3D models, music, images, animation, dance and video, the significance of Mary of Hungary’s patronage is brought to life thanks to new technologies. These immersive reconstructions centred on Renaissance art, architecture and music were created as part of the European innovation project in digital mediation called MARY4ALL, which aims to combine heritage and digital technologies to foster a better understanding of the past.
Following their presence in Mariemont (as part of the exhibition ‘Marie of Hungary. Art and Power in the Renaissance), Mühlberg (Germany) and Brussels, these installations will also be on display in Villaviciosa and Granada (Spain). These locations are all part of the ‘Routes of Emperor Charles V’ network, recognised by the Council of Europe.
