Webinar 2: Open Source in digital creation applied to museum heritage, utopia or future?

Activity
20 Nov 2025

At a time when museums are stepping up their digital initiatives to promote lost heritage and make their content more accessible, several challenges remain: how can we avoid the pitfalls encountered by other institutions, innovate with limited resources and design sustainable tools?

This second webinar explores the challenges associated with open source in digital creation applied to museum heritage, as well as the prospects for the development and sustainability of existing systems in the fields of education, heritage and tourism.

It is part of the Québec–Wallonia–Brussels cooperation, alongside the Îlot des Palais and the Coudenberg Palace, which invite the museum and heritage community to rethink digital creation in the era of openness and sharing.

Given this partnership, events will only be held in French.

Webinar 2. Digital enhancement of lost architectural heritage: Open Source in digital creation applied to museum heritage, utopia or future?

Date: 20 November 2025, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. (Quebec) or from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. (Belgium), online (in French).

In search of autonomy and guaranteed data protection, European regional administrations are switching their IT networks to open source software. Many museum institutions are pursuing the same objectives and wondering about the feasibility. Is this approach transferable to the heritage sector? Isn't the development of free mediation tools a utopia? Can open source meet the expectations of museums in terms of budget, autonomy and sustainability?

During this webinar, we will benefit from the expertise of:

  • Filip Lannoye, Head of Digital at Visit Brussels,
  • Emmanuel Chateau-Dutier, professor at the University of Montreal
